Why, on your web pages of course. Ok, just kidding. The real question should be: “Is there really any truth to the rumors that where you place those Google AdSense ads can actually improve response?” According to my best information, the answer to that question is: Yes.

Google’s own AdSense experts say that that there is a direct correlation between the placement of the AdSense ads and the resulting clickthrough.

When ads are placed in “content zones”, rather than in “advertising zones”, response rates on Google AdWords goes up. There are also indications showing that ads appearing on the right side of the page get clicked more than ads appearing on the left side.

Advertising analysts with degrees in human behavior and psychology have spent thousands of man-years (people-years?) studying how people read printed and Internet content and what it takes to get them to respond to ads. While some of these studies are proprietary, or are only available to anyone with $10,000 or more to spend on a copy, other studies have been made public and can be read by anyone who is interested.

Google themselves has released some relevant information which is focused directly on increasing your Google AdSense response. You can read their findings here (https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html).

Of course, all of the studies in the world aren’t worth a hill of beans if the findings don’t work on your web site. That’s why it is important to test, test and test again. Experiment with your Google AdSense placement and track the results over a period of time. Google provides response tracking tools in your AdSense control panel. Learn how to use them. As you begin to see what may be only subtle differences in response, you’ll be able to determine what works best for your particular site. But don’t get complacent. What’s working for you now might not work next month if you change your site design or content.

One of the most important factors in determining placement of your ads is the type of content that your site delivers. If you are primarily an e-commerce site, and you have a lot of pictures and ad copy for your own products competing for attention against AdSense ads, then it is going to be a particularly tough challenge getting any kind of decent Google AdSense clickthrough. It is situations like this that require very thorough testing and a lot of trial and error.

Blogs seem to have a lot of success generating high response rates to Google AdSense listings. Perhaps it’s because blog readers realize that ad revenue is the only way that their favorite blogmaster can keep the lights on, so the readers think of clicking on ads as a way to make a donation.

Regardless of what the experts say, your best bet is to tailor your Google AdSense ad placement to what your own experience shows works best for you. In the end, you’re the only expert who matters.

As explained in Why are ads displayed on this site?, most of the pages on this site display text ads from Google’s AdWords program. To display these ads, a site must join Google’s AdSense program. Joining is free, but not all sites are eligible to join. Once you’re accepted, however, it’s very simple to place the ads on your pages and to start generating revenue for your site. AdSense will serve ads that are generally very relevant to the content of a particular page. Here are some tips based on my experiences so far with the AdSense program.

Tip #1: Don’t put ads on empty pages.

When I reworked my site, I built a skeleton set of pages that had no content, just titles and some meta tags. I displayed ads on those pages, however. Although all you see are public service ads at first, the very act of displaying ads on a page causes the AdSense web crawler to quickly fetch that page for analysis. A page with good content will thus begin showing relevant paying ads fairly quickly.

If you don’t have any content, then, Google will have to guess as what your page is about. It may guess wrong, and so the ads that it displays may not be relevant. You’ll have to wait until Google re-crawls the site for the ads to correct themselves. Here is what Google had to say when I asked them about how often the AdSense crawler updates a site:

Thank you for taking the time to update your site. New ads will start appearing on your site the next time our crawler re-indexes your site. Unfortunately at this time, we are unable to control how often our crawlers index the content on your site.

Crawling is done automatically by our bots. When new pages are added to your website or introduced to the AdSense program, our crawlers will usually get to them within 30 minutes. If you make changes to a page, however, it may take up to 2 or 3 weeks before the changes are reflected in our index. Until we are able to crawl your web pages, you may notice public service ads, for which you will not receive any earnings.

It’s better to flesh out the page before you start displaying ads on it.

Tip #2: Don’t be afraid to ask questions

If you’re wondering about something, don’t be afraid to ask Google. So far, they’ve always responded to my questions within a working day. There are two email addresses to use, depending on the type of question:

Please feel free to email us at adsense-tech@google.com if you have additional technical questions or concerns. For general program or account questions, please email adsense-support@google.com.

Their responses are always very polite, and they appreciate getting problem reports and suggestions.

Tip #3: Avoid non-English characters on English pages

This one is a bug, to be honest. My surname is French, and I prefer to write it out correctly with the accent grave on the first “e”. Every page on my site would then include at least two accented letters, because my name shows up twice in the footer. On some pages my name shows up two or three more times.

Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue. But on some pages the presence of the accented characters is enough to cause AdSense to display non-relevant ads in French. This happens whether the browser indicates a preference for French or not. When I reported this to Google, this is the answer they gave me:

Hello Eric,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

We are currently working as quickly as we can to address this problem. As soon as we have more information for you, we will email you again.

We appreciate your patience.
Sincerely,

The Google Team

Until this is resolved, I’ve decided to strip out all accents except on the pages that are actually in French.

Tip #4: Check your keyword density

Although Google doesn’t release exact details as to how they determine the ads to serve on a given page, they do tell us that it’s the text content of the page that matters, not the meta tags. Before serving ads on a page, then, you might want to check its keyword density. A good, free tool for doing this is found here:

http://www.ranks.nl/tools/spider.html

This lets you fine-tune the page before exposing it to the AdSense crawler.

The most question for monetize blog with googgle adsense is how their AdSense revenue sky rocketted without increasing the number of visitors to Web?. The key to earn with Google AdSense is make your ads as part of your content. Its purpose is to prevent blocks AdSense ads as blatant.

The following six ways you can do to increase your adsense probability to get click :

1. Put it in the right Place

Find the right place-most visitors to the site to read the contents in the middle of a web page. As a result, the best place for its AdSense unit at the top of the page, at the start of its web content. Do you want to weave Google ads on its web content to pretend that they are expanding links to additional information about the page.

2. Use best Adsense format

Use a large rectangle with Google AdSense intead using different ad formats. Most often, people choose classification (728×90) or wide skyscraper “(160×600) style ads. Unfortunately, this is your wrong choice, because both apparently blatant ads! It’s more like that you have show it to your reader that block were Ads!. Smart webmasters found that the use of large rectangle (336×280) the best adsense format for click harvests.

3. Get rid the border

Throw out the border could sharply increasing your AdSense revenue, so change the border, blend it with your background. This is another way to ads appear useful web content.

4. Make a same font between adsense and content

Adapt your ads source with your content. Make your content font and size just like as your Ads. Make your ads just look as an usual link. This will help make it clear that advertising is a natural part of your site.

5. Combining color

By combine colors in addition to change its fonts, were something you must do to decorate your site. For example, if your content in black, blue and their relationship, then AdSense units should also have the same color. There also helps ad seems normal web content.

6. Do not distract your reader eyes

Do not overwhelming your site with banners and other colorful images. Too many of them just make your reader could not see your adsense. With too many links and graphics. All you will get just slower loading for your site that could make your reader bored to wait and leave your site soon. They will not give you more revenue. You just one step to disappointing your reader. If you concern about adsense, give no banner and other image that make your site too heavy too load.

If the time to comply with these six simple steps, you will see a sharp increase in ads based on the ratio of their ads. If you add the entire contents of your site, their income from AdSense Skyrocket!

The 336 x 280 large rectangle receives the highest click through rate by far. It is followed by the 300 x 250 small rectangle, and then the CTR really starts to drop off from there.

The reason that these two formats do better than the others depends on which format you compare them to. The 468 x 60 banner clearly is the worst victim of banner blindness. Again, “banner blindness” is the fact that most Internet users today are so used to seeing advertisements that anything appearing in the shape of “tradditional” web advertising on a page is subconsciously ignored. The 728 x 90 suffers less from this phenomenon, but it suffers just the same.
The thin and tall formats (120 x 240, 160 x 600 and 120 x 600) get a lower CTR because they usually don’t fit well anywhere except on the right or left sides of a page. But the right and left sides of a web page are usually reserved for navigation and smaller advertisements. The real meat of any web page is in the center of the page. So while these formats are not bad in themselves, the typical positioning of them gives them a lower CTR.
You should be using the 336 x 280 large rectangle format, or if you don’t have room for that, use the 300 x 250.

Average CTR by Ad Format
Format CTR

336 x 280 7.46%
300 x 250 5.58%
728 x 90 3.16%
120 x 240 2.99%
160 x 600 2.44%
120 x 600 1.33%
468 x 60 0.53%

To get more clicks, you’ve got to get your visitors to notice the ads by putting them in the right place and making them look less like “traditional” web
advertising.

The basic goal of this document is to make your AdSense ads look less like ads, and more like content on your page. It has the second goal of putting the ads exactly where they need to be to draw the most clicks.
The AdSense publisher’s problem is that the typical Internet surfer is plagued by “banner blindness”. People automatically overlook anything that looks like
an advertisement because of being bombarded with ads all the time. It’s not that they
aren’t interested in what the advertiser has to offer. With AdSense you know that they
are interested most of the time, since the ads shown are related to the content of the
page. The fact that the visitor clicks on the ad is an expression of their interest in
whatever that ad has to offer.

What I’ll focus on in this document is not hiding the fact that the links are ads, but putting the ads on the page in such a way that they are not overlooked by the visitor.
Google makes it very clear that the links are ads by placing their “Ads by Google” link in
the ad block.
